First Steps to MLT Certification

We offer the CSMLS National Certification MLT Examination (Exam) to IEMLTs who have been deemed eligible through the CSMLS Prior Learning Assessment (PLA). The Exam may only be written in Canada.

Before you can write the Exam, your eligibility must be established through the CSMLS PLA.

Your education and experience in another country do not automatically make you eligible to write the Exam.

If you have been educated and trained as an MLT outside of Canada, you can have your MLT education and clinical work experience assessed through the CSMLS PLA. This process is performed by CSMLS on behalf of eight (8) Canadian provincial MLT regulators and provides a single point of access for IEMLTs who are seeking Canadian certification.

The PLA process reviews and evaluates your education, training and clinical work experience, at the technologist level, in comparison to the CSMLS MLT competency profiles.
