Nova Scotia MLA Regulation
April 20, 2023
An official submission for regulation of medical laboratory assistants (MLAs) is now before Nova Scotia's provincial government. The submission, first made in early April, includes many letters of support from employers and the NSCMLT, the regulatory body for MLTs in the province.
This submission is part of our ongoing work in other provinces, including Ontario and Alberta, to pursue MLA regulation.
Our work on MLA regulation is one part of our multipronged approach to addressing staffing shortages in labs across the country, as regulation empowers employers to be more flexible in staffing their labs, ensuring the right tasks are being performed by the right professionals, all while protecting patient safety.
