Lab techs push for regulation

October 04, 2010

A group that works behind the scenes of P.E.I.'s health care system is asking the government to regulate its jobs to ensure patient safety.

Medical laboratory technologists test "everything that comes out of your body," and say their results are used in 85 per cent of medical diagnoses in Island hospitals.

Each lab tech is required to be certified through the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science, but there is no provincial legislation that ensures their training is up to date. - via The Journal Pioneer (30 September 2010)
