Who is Eligible?

There are two ways to be eligible to write the CSMLS certification exam.

Medical Laboratory Technologist

Option 1
Successfully complete a CMA accredited MLT education program. You must complete all diploma requirements before the exam date. An accredited program is one that has met the requirements of the Canadian Medical Association Committee on Program Accreditation.

Option 2
Be declared eligible through the CSMLS Prior Learning Assessment. You must be declared ‘Equivalent’ to the competency profile and meet the language requirements.

 

 

Medical Laboratory Assistant

Option 1
All graduates of a Canadian medical laboratory assistant program (college, institution or hospital-based), are eligible to write the exam and must submit the following:

  • A notarized copy of certificate and/or transcript confirming successful completion of training program.
  • Verification of successful program completion (transcript/diploma) to be sent to the CSMLS directly from the educational institute.

Option 2
Currently practicing in a Canadian laboratory as a medical laboratory assistant, and must submit the following:

  • A signed letter from employer confirming length of employment and outlining duties and responsibilities.
  • A completed personal competency rating booklet which must be reviewed and signed by employer.
