PRHC medical lab conducts 1.4 million tests a year

Peterborough Regional Health Centre’s medical laboratory is a hive of activity on the hospital’s sixth floor.

Blood, tissue, bacteria and urine samples go into the lab. Analyses head out to the various areas of the hospital to help physicians determine how to best treat patients.

With National Medical Laboratory Week this week, hospital officials gave local reporters a tour of the lab Thursday to raise awareness of the work of the lab’s technicians, clerks, pathologists and other employees.
